The personal webspace of James Dunn
I have at long last decided what I am doing for my final year project. Between now and March 2006 I will be developing a web site that serves content based on the kind of day you've had/your current state of mind/your attitude towards friends and family, or to be more general, you're the way you are feeling right now. Whether you are frustrated, angry, sad, chilled out or happy the website will have something for you to read, and hopefully improve your day. I intend to make this a completely two way process, with user submitted content being the focal point of the site hopefully creating lively interesting community of people.
With this in mind I have begun to develop some visual ideas as to what sections of the site might look like in the form of concept boards. These will go one to become the basis for an actual web page design. Two of my favourites for representing "anger" can be seen below:
This idea uses red predominantly to set the mood, and gives further emphasis through the use of tree-like black lines. The background appears gritty and I have attempted to cut through the image with blocks of plain colour to break up the texture of the background layers. The typeface "Dauphin" is used for the headline and "Giovanni" for the sub headlines, however this is one aspect that I am still not completely satisfied with yet.
Grey was used as a contrast here, and more open space was left to lessen the visual weight of the image. I have tried to create coarse grungy lines, and type that pushes the idea of tension and unrest. The use of red also gently hints at undertones of blood that contribute the unsettling feelings that I am trying to build.

I'm glad you figured out what to do for your final project. I think it sounds like a great idea and the visual concepts look great thus far. Best of luck!
